There are many programmers, good and, let’s be honest mediocre. However, all of them will find their place in this world ruled by IT, though most will stay unnoticed despite the fact they’re doing their job. If you want to outstand, it’s not sufficient to just close tasks in Jira. The world of IT pays you higher than average salary, expecting from you a little bit more than what is written in your contract. This blogpost contains a piece of advice on how to start your path towards being a superstar among your colleagues. Surprisingly or not, it does not really take much from you to stand out.

During Working Hours

Let’s start with the part of your life, which is in your supervisor’s field of vision.

1. Don’t Throw Over the Wall

What is the difference between junior-ish and senior-ish developers? One of the answers to this question is that later ones see a bigger picture. When you’re working on something, always keep in mind how it would interact with the rest of the system, how other people will use your work, how it’s going to be tested, etc. Never throw your work over the wall — take responsibility for it and make sure it’s finished.
